How is people pleasing affecting you?

What it is: People pleasing is prioritizing other people’s needs and opinions over our own, potentially avoiding conflict, having trouble setting boundaries or saying yes too often.

The thing is, people pleasing often comes from:

  • A childhood where there was inconsistent caregivers or codependent relationships

  • A trauma response where you “fawn” as a coping response to appease someone

  • Social anxiety, trying to avoid rejection

🌺  You come by it honestly!

But it’s impacting you. Many of my clients are facing self doubt, have difficulty sleeping, feeling confused about their relationships and overall feeling burnt out.

The truth is, you can find a way out. You can become a powerful person who has peace and blooms.

How will working with me help you?

I have a passion for helping clients connect to their true voice so they can:

  • Find the source of their people pleasing tendencies

  • Learn and practice self compassion and curiosity

  • Increase awareness and acceptance of their thoughts and feelings

  • Let their feelings guide them in their next step, which may include:

    • Learning and practicing boundary work

    • Learning to sit with healthy discomfort

    • Recognizing common thinking traps and increasing cognitive flexibility

    • Making values based goals geared towards self care and empowerment

Therapy can help you work through your problems and grow in peace and bloom like you were meant to, with all the ups and downs of life.

As Brene Brown said, “the most compassionate people…. were also the most boundaried.”

About

Hi, I’m Rachael Hallam, LCSW

As a powerful person and people pleaser in constant recovery, I feel the pull to be in connection with others and to follow what is best for me. I have learned that following what is healthy for me is always what’s best for my relationships and the most loving thing to do.

I love seeing the light come on in people’s lives, literally and figuratively, as they bravely do the discovery, grief and acceptance work to find peace within themselves and their relationships.

It is a great honor to be part of clients’ journeys and to see them eventually feel they have become who they were always meant to be.
